Watch and pair case
1625-1640 (made)
after 1625-1650 (altered)Enamelled gold watch case, engraved on the case the Stuart Royal Arms in Garter, with crested helm and supporters, and monogram ‘C.R.’, inscribed ‘This watch was a present from the King to the Earl of Monteith’.
It would appear that the watch originally belonged to Charles I (beheaded in 1649) and was later presented by Charles II to William Graham, 19th Earl of Monteith (1661-94).
